10 Ways to Stay Positive Everyday

You’ve heard it before but it should be said again - addiction recovery is not easy. Each day is a challenge to keep your head in the right place. But if you’re struggling to stay positive, these 10 tips can help you find your way back.

#1. Love yourself and accept you for you

Practice daily affirmations. List all the things you love about yourself. Whatever it takes to remind yourself of all the things that make you, you. Embrace yourself for who you are.

#2. Give up past resentments and disappointments about yourself.

Challenge yourself every day to be a better person than you were the day before. Find a way to forgive yourself for the past. Stop with the self-blame and guilt! Remember - it’s progress and not perfection.

#3. Let go of resentments towards other people and events.

Stop criticizing and blaming others. Don’t take things personally. Remind yourself that what other people do is a reflection of them and not you. When things happen, accept life on life’s terms and look to these things as opportunities for you to grow.

#4. Stop giving your power away.

Start using your time and energy wisely. Every single time you choose to focus on the negative you are choosing to waste your energy. Remember that like attracts like and the more you focus on the negative, the more negativity you are inviting into your life. Recovery is about attracting positive energy into your life right now and every moment after.

#5. Visualize what you want.

Instead of picturing the worst possible scenario, attempt to see things as you want them. Visualize yourself doing things in a state of perfect health and perfect happiness. Try using a vision board. Pinterest is also a great place to find inspiring images and quotes.

#6. Do not identify any illness or disease as being part of your self or being.

Phrases like “I am sick” or “I am diseased” are self-fulfilling prophecies. When you use phrases like that, you are putting that into the universe but the worst part is that you are convincing yourself that you are those things. Try phrases like “I am experiencing the disease of addiction” or even better, say “I am a person in recovery from addiction.”

#7. Come from love; not fear

Create the habit of expressing gratitude for everything and anything. A great way to do this is to make a daily gratitude list. Thank the people around you whenever possible.

#8. Recognize that you have the power to heal yourself.

Allow your positive thoughts to replace negatives ones. Not only will you eliminate stress but you will boost your immune system too. Take action and take control over your life.

#9. BE HAPPY.

Practice being present and in the moment. Choose happiness. You control that - only you have the power to make yourself happy. When you find ways you be happy, you’ll find that you attract positive energy, boost your immune system and enable yourself to heal.

#10. Laugh. Do it often.

Laughter is truly the best medicine. Watch funny movies, think about things that have happened and been said that make you laugh. You can even try laughing meditation!

These are but a few ways to help work yourself back into a positive mind frame. What do you think? What do you do to find positivity in your life? Please share in the comments.
