Where Should I Attend Rehab?
With the plethora of options available for drug rehabilitation and addiction recovery these days, it can be an overwhelming choice to decide which choice is right for you. Should you travel somewhere far away from home or stay local? The answer really depends on your own unique situation.
If you intend to do an outpatient recovery program for more manageable addictions, which includes attending therapy at a rehab center and then returning home each night, then choosing a facility close to home makes the most sense. You will, however, maintain all the distractions and focus of your daily life and will often face your temptations more readily.
However, if your addiction is severe or your daily life is cause for excessive temptation to use again, you’ll likely have more success by going somewhere out of town. An inpatient stay at a rehab facility far from home removes you from your daily routine and the people who know you. It allows you to focus solely on your own recovery and often means you get the space to dig deep and discover the underlying roots of your addiction without the stress of relatives and coworkers seeing you on a daily basis.
Remember that there is no right or wrong way to go through rehab as long as you commit to recovery and make an effort to work through the process all the way.
